Big commitments made at London nutrition summit

If we want to know where our international leaders and large aid organizations has fallen short over the last 35 years of initiatives to fight and end world hunger, perhaps this quote sums it up:

There have been too many high level summits, conferences and proclamations. But there have been inconsistent, only short-term cases of ‘putting their money where their mouths are’. The aid community jumps from one short-term fad to the next with little in the way of sustained ‘heavy lifting’. That’s not to say that their aren’t many organizations (large and small) that have been putting up a valiant effort, but they have to operating under those very conditions of inconsistency on the part of political leaders and major international donors.

British Prime Minister David Cameron at the Global Nutrition Summit in London:

“It’s not the commitments made today that will beat hunger — it’s the way they are followed through tomorrow, and the next day and the day after.”
